Age-appropriate coaching is everything. A simple guide to matching your child to the right group so they grow in confidence, not just skill.
One of the most common questions we hear from parents is simple: which group is right for my child? The honest answer is that age is the starting point, not the whole story. Here is how to think about it.
Start with the stage, not just the age
Our programs are built around developmental stages. A confident eight-year-old who has played before may thrive alongside slightly older children, while a beginner of the same age is better served building fundamentals first. The right group is the one where your child is challenged but not overwhelmed.
- Foundation (5 to 8): movement, coordination and a love of the game. Fun leads, technique follows.
- Development (9 to 12): core technique and the basics of match play in structured weekly sessions.
- Performance (13 to 16): match craft, specialization and competitive team selection.
- Academy (17 to 19): high-performance training and the pathway toward representative cricket.
Match frequency to commitment
More sessions per week accelerate progress, but only if your child stays fresh and keeps enjoying it. We usually suggest starting with one or two sessions and increasing once the routine settles. Burnout helps no one.
The best program is the one your child looks forward to. Enjoyment is what makes the hours add up.
When in doubt, ask us
Every child is different, and a short conversation with our coaches usually settles it quickly. Tell us your child's age, any experience they have and what you are hoping they get out of it, and we will point you to the right group.
